Brue Bar is cool in every way. The crowning feature of this cafe is the Steampunk coffee maker. This innovative brewing system was created by Salt Lake City-based Alpha Dominche. The Steampunk brews coffee by pulsing varying levels of steam into the upper chamber, saturating the coffee grounds and letting them fall through a fine strain to the lower chamber. The Steampunk is digitally controlled through a smart gadget, giving you the ultimate authority on how you want your coffee to taste. You can vary the water temperature, length of time the coffee sits in the hot water, and the frequency and intensity of the pulses of steam in the upper chamber.
There are four brewing chambers in the Steampunk, meaning a barista can brew four entirely different cups of coffee at the same time. You can choose from several roasts by California-based roastery Verve Coffee.
The Menu at Brue Bar
The menu here is streamlined and simple. There are only seven items on the espresso menu, and they’re the classics: espresso, con panna, macchiato, cortado, cappuccino, americano, latte, and mocha. On a hot day, the Cold Brue is perfect. And you have to admire the fact that it’s brewed for 16 hours! You’ll rarely find a toddy brewed more than 12.
Organic flavored syrups, alternative milks, and house-made whipped cream are all available to adorn your exquisitely produced cup of coffee. Brue Bar also offers a small selection of pastries and a wide selection of teas from TeaSource, as well as Dragonfly Chai lattes.
Located in downtown Honolulu, this cafe’s vibe and interior are modern, clean, and handsome. Modern art adorns the walls and the deep signature blue color of Brue’s theme is complemented by hardwood floors and dark walls.
Brue Bar is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
