Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack

After a relaxing day soaking up the Hawaiian sun on the fine sands of Windward O‘ahu, trade the azure blue waters of the Pacific for the funky red storefront of Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack. Nestled in the little hamlet of Waimānalo, this quirky café features a no-frills menu loaded with delicious plate lunches, fresh seafood, and the quintessential Hawaiian breakfast: the Loco Moco. Come see why locals and visitors who venture off the beaten path swear by this no-frills island-style eatery and dig in to the delicious, everyday flavors of Hawaii.

The Menu at Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack

Here, the name says it all. Local plate lunches loaded with minced garlic are served atop perfectly cooked rice, and everything is finger-licking good at one of our favorite places to eat in Honolulu. The garlic shrimp is the most popular dish, with each sweet “lil buggah” expertly butterflied and perfectly cooked, but you can’t go wrong with any of their meals. Try the Smoked Meat Plate, the Garlic Shrimp and Steak Combo, or the Kalbi Ribs. If you have a hankering for fresh seafood, you cannot go wrong with the fresh Ono (Wahoo) with mango papaya salsa, the Furikake Ahi Plate with Wasabi Aioli, or the famed Garlic Ahi. All plate lunches come with delicious sides like macaroni salad, garlic rice, or fresh fruit. Each is a delicious interpretation of island classics, capturing the culinary crossroads of Hawai‘i’s local cuisine and its Eastern and Western influences. The plate lunches are massive, filling, and sure to have you dreaming of a return visit (though we promise you will not have room for seconds this time around).

Off the Beaten Track

Ono Steaks and Shrimp Shack is open 10:30am to 5pm six days a week (closed on Tuesdays). While it is a counter-service café, there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We recommend enjoying the view from the shaded picnic tables outside. Parking and restrooms are located behind the restaurant. The food is cooked to order but well worth the wait (though it can be agonizing as the delicious aromas wafting out of the grill area are sure to only escalate your hunger pangs). Ono Steak and Shrimp is located next to Waimānalo Beach Park at 41-037 Wailea Street in Waimānalo.
