O`ahu boasts not only some of the best Ko Olina golf courses in the country, it also has more courses than any other Hawaiian island. With virtually perfect weather, O`ahu is a golfer’s dream. Plus, with our consistent trade winds and the prevalence of Bermuda greens and their faster breaks, you will find new challenges awaiting you as you tackle the island’s courses (as if you needed more challenges). There is a layout for everyone and every budget, from the championship course right here at the Ko Olina Golf Club to the private country clubs and the impeccably maintained community courses.
The Top 5 Oahu Golf Courses
Sure, we might be biased, but take Golf Digest’s word for it: The Ko Olina Golf Club is the best on the island. Featuring multi-tiered greens, epic landscaping, and large landing areas, this course is a must for our Oahu golf course guests. Hit the links, keep an eye out for our resident celebrity golfer Michelle Wie, and enjoy the 19th hole at Roy Yamaguchi’s award-winning restaurant in our 35,000-foot clubhouse.
Just an hour’s drive north, the Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay is a world-class golf destination of its own. Wrapping around natural wetland preserves, snaking through the heart of the Hawaiian jungle, and offering stunning views of the ocean, this course is a true gem – and the crown jewel of Turtle Bay’s two 18-hole offerings.
If you want a challenge – and we do mean a challenge – then the Ko`olau Golf Club is calling your name. The running joke here is that the course record is 63 – lost balls that is. Voted the most difficult course in the world, it features razor thin fairways, long holes with impossible approaches over unforgiving ravines, and greens shaded by 2,000-foot high cliffs that, in our opinion, are cursed (the greens, not the mountains). Still, it’s an absolutely beautiful course for those with a larger-than-normal golf ball budget, and it must be played to be believed.
The Royal Hawaiian Golf Club just underwent a major redesign, and while it remains a challenging course that is unforgiving to missed shots, the lush scenery of the Maunawilli Valley on the Windward side makes you forget all your troubles. Emerald fairway corridors cut through the flowering jungle and epic greens beckon as you wind up and down the valley beneath the towering peaks of Olomana.
Closer to home in Leeward O`ahu is the Hawaii Prince Golf Club, just 15 minutes from your accommodations at Beach Villas Hawaii. The course features 27 holes beautifully laid out across the Ewa plains, with 10 water features and 90 sand bunkers standing guard. Challenging lies and fast greens make this a challenging course regardless of pin placement, albeit a beautiful one.
A Golfer’s Getaway
O`ahu really does have it all for the Ko Olina golf course enthusiast, whether you come to watch the PGA’s Sony Open at the Waialae Country Club in January, or to play your own rounds of championship golf. We are impartial to the best course on the island, which has the added bonus of being in your backyard at our Beach Villas Hawaii rentals, but no matter your preference there are Oahu golf courses just waiting for you.
